Interview on Credit counseling

We are here today with Mr. Tom Quenn, from Americadebt. He is a special guest who will be answering some questions from your emails. Whether you have a question about credit counseling, credit counseling, credit counseling, bankruptcy, or finance in general, he is here to offer practical advice and honest answers. This page will be devoted to those questions that relate to credit counseling.

Credit counseling question #1 from Miles in Texas:

Mr. Quenn, how is credit counseling different from other programs?

Tom: Good question Miles. Credit counseling tends to focus on lowering high interest rates for consumer debt. There are other element involved, like education on budgeting and managing finances, but most people are looking to credit counseling to relieve a long term financial burden in a far less amount of time than it would normally take. A program like credit counseling differs from credit counseling in that settlement in generally faster and also lowers actual principal. There are pro's and con's to all methods of getting help. Texas credit counseling should offer the same benefits as in any other state. You'll want to talk to a reputable company who can advise you of the best situation based on YOUR needs.

Credit counseling question #2 from Evan in Michigan:

I think I'm in a bad credit counseling program. I was told that the IRS is looking into their company as well. Should I stick with them and tough it out?

Tom: Well Evan, if they are a bad credit counseling company, absolutely not! Run, run, run. Find a good company. The longer you wait, the more you can lose. I don't want to scare you, but a questionable credit counseling company is not going to get better with age!

Credit counseling question #3 from Tammy in North Carolina:

Hi. My name is Tammy. I only have 1 credit card with a balance of about $700. Is a credit counseling program right for me?

Tom: Hello Tammy. While helping you with reevaluating your lifestyle as to how it relates to your finances may be a good thing, enrolling in a 3 or 5 or 7 year program to lower your interest on one small account is generally not what you want. There may be other options for you, including creating a budget and taking any excess money you have and putting it towards the account. Without knowing the details or your circumstances, it is hard to say if credit counseling is something to even think about at this time.

We would like to thank everyone for asking such practical questions about credit counseling. We will be adding more of your questions along with helpful responses as time goes on. If you would like to speak to Tom, feel free to contact him at (888) 860 - 3328 or http://www.americadebt.net
